At Gumtree, the wellbeing of our community is our highest priority. As you know, we are facing challenging times, so we have compiled a list of trading tips from fellow Gummies that we would like to share with you.

1.  Share additional photos and ask questions beforehand

Sellers – upload as many relevant, quality photos as possible and be descriptive with your responses to ensure buyers are clear about all features of the item.

Buyers – ask questions, request extra details or photos via the Gumtree message centre / app  to making trading face to face a little quicker.

2.  Prepare items for sale and be ready to exchange

Where possible, have items ready for exchange. If you’re meeting to view a car, organise for it to be ready in your driveway or a convenient location. If you’re meeting to trade a household or electronic item, have it ready to hand over and clean or disinfect any surfaces in advance. Should you need to test, touch or try the item before exchanging please take precautions and clean hands prior to and post reviewing the item.

3.  Choose Safe Payment Methods

Many forms of money transfer can be faked or are hard to reverse should anything go wrong. If you can’t use cash, use safer methods such as PayPal and make sure that the payment has been processed before trading the item.

4. Switch the traditional handshake for a “footshake” or “elbow bump”

As per messages from health experts, keep physical contact to a minimum. Please do follow the guidance from public health authorities which is to keep physical contact to a minimum and if you’re unwell, stay at home and away from others. Wash your hands frequently and cover your cough or sneeze. For more, please go to the Department of Health & Social Care website.
