We’ve removed the ‘captcha’ when posting ads on Gumtree.comThursday 29 November 2012, by The media team
This week, we’re simplifying the way that you reply to an ad in the Gumtree website. So whether you’re searching for a car in Manchester or a sofa in London you can keep in touch with sellers through our safe and quick mail function.
It’s a subtle change, but now all of the information you have to put in is kept to a minimum, and you’ll no longer have to type in the funny looking ‘captcha’ words!
This starts to roll out in the next few days, so let’s take look at the before and after pages!

A word on features
Those of you that regularly post ads on Gumtree know that we offer a range of features to help promote your ad and get it seen by as many people as possible.
And the best news? Buying a feature can increase your replies by more than 100%!
For those that haven’t tried them before, here are your options:
- You can make your ad URGENT – which means that your ad gets an ‘urgent’ label next to it in the listing and search results, for 7 days.
- You can feature your ad, which means it is sits at the top of the listings pile, and is highlighted in a different colour.
- You can get onto the Ad Spotlight – that means being one of the ads on the front page of Gumtree for a week – and seen by millions of users!
