Join the #UpcycleRevolution with GumtreeFriday 19 June 2015, by The Media Team
On Tuesday night we kicked off the Gumtree #UpcycleRevolution in style at our Blogger Upcycle Challenge evening in central London. Hosted by upcycling expert and all round good guy, Max McMurdo. The evening saw our challengers descend on London from all over the country to showcase the items they’ve worked so hard to create over the last couple of weeks.
Check out the video from the event to see exactly what we got up to!
From a drum kit turned toy storage unit to a pet palace fashioned from a cupboard, the creativity and innovation each and every one of our upcyclers brought to the workshop bench was truly inspiring!
Lynne Lambourne of Love Nellie and one of our upcycling challengers said, “The Gumtree #UpcycleRevolution event was such a great idea, I loved getting together with other upcyclers and sharing tips and ideas. Max McMurdo’s enthusiasm was infectious and I think that everyone left the evening inspired to carry on upcycling.” Lynne continued, “The Gumtree community we have discovered is the perfect place to feed our upcycling habit and there will be no stopping us now. I look forward to keeping in touch with those that I met and hopefully inspiring others to join us.”
The night wasn’t all fun and games, however, as Max had to get down to the serious business of choosing his favourite item and awarding the winning upcycler a £500 donation to a charity of their choice. The competition was stiff, but after much chin scratching and a slight nervous breakdown, Max eventually came to a decision and awarded Neil Flynn of Upcycling XYZ the accolade of Gumtree Upcycling Champion, for his super hero themed children’s toy storage unit made from a drum kit. Neil’s chosen charity was the NSPCC. Congratulations Neil!
Tuesday night’s event was just the tip of the iceberg however, as we,along with the rest of the upcycling community have big plans for the officialGumtree #UpcycleRevolution On the 24th June when we will see the first ever National Upcycling DayA perfect opportunity for the whole upcycling community to come together and celebrate , plus pave the way for new upcyclers to join the revolution by starting with Gumtree. We have hundreds of items perfect to buy, take home and create something new.
Max McMurdo is on board and ready to roll up his sleeves, saying, “Thank goodness Gumtree has taken the initiative to start National Upcycling Day. It’s like a dream come true for me.”
Well Max, it’s a dream come true for us too!
