I think that in a bid to get offers on here substandard products and quality are being offered. When a complaint is submitted Gumtree refuse to intervene and you’re left with duff goods and a strong sense of dissatisfaction. Miami White teeth whitener has been spectacularly poor purchase. There is a lot of ads in Gumtree, and this is why it is so popular because you can find anything.
But each search generates a lot of results, and if you can’t refine, sort etc… it’s completely useless.

For Edinburgh flatshare listings/other cities with a large student population, would it be possible to have a check box that will automaticly show in the title that the flat is for students only? Its so annoying going back and forth constantly, as 40-50% (even more at peak times) of the listings are for students/non-CT payers. I’m sure students would find this helpful too.

I would like to see a new catagory added to the gumtree.ie website. Would it be possible for gumtree to add a new section for DIY and tools. I think this might bring new people to the site and offer people wishing to buy or sell tools and DIY related materials a dedicated section instead of trying to put them in random sections where they are hard to find.

Consensus of comments seems to be overwhelming: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Why ask for consumer response if it’s then ignored? I’m fed up with having to revert to the old format each time I want to search (several times a day). Least you can do is make it easier for those who so wish (which seems to be most customers!) to be troubled no longer by the “improved” format, in truth no more than an overwhelming nuisance. Whose ego is at stake here? Name the guilty man! (Or woman?) Enough is enough.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I can’t even find my ad!? I’ve tried numerous search criterias, and supposedly there are four share flats in Edinburgh. I can find my ad easily on the old view, but can not find it to save my life on the new version.
What is going on Gumtree?

I think Gumtree was an excellent site and still is. Alot of people complaining here, but I really have to give a big shout to the Gumtree team who have done a fantasic job.
I get calls all day long from Adwords campaign managers wanting me to pay a fortune for advertising that does nothing. I just laugh at them and tell them that Gumtree is the only site I would ever considered spending my money with now.
I get plenty of enquires, and my ads are indexed with 5 minutes. For everything that we have taken from Gumtree, I will start a nice big campaign soon

There is definitely less traffic here now and more and more complaints about fewer ad replies, or no replies at all. Forums user figures in constant decline it would appear. All due to the new management and their weird ideas perhaps.
I just read all comments thinking that may be i am morning: but PLEASE have a look with all your team: you have just complaints..couple per day… there is only one posetive post from ‘replay’ which is on 20th may.. will be very surprised if it is not one of you:).. and its so much wierd that taking in to consideration so many complaints you dont do anything at all..you didnt post even one official replay clearing the situation..kind of ‘we dont care..’. but think other way: if people paying for posts dont get respond because of using inconvinyences, they wont be paying and posting anything in here anymore. Hi, i am a very heavy user of your site. First of all thank you for your great job! And aboout the upgrade: honestly, the site became SOO INCONVINYENT for users.. Search engine is whole around the site and by pressing one button we just loose our previous entries. Please MAKE IT SIMPLE AGAIN! with this new upgrade we get as 4 times less options comming. Please keep the OLD SEARCH DATA ENTRY ENGINE and OLD CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM. The new site is not just complicated but also very inconvinyent. It means instead of making it better and easier to use just overdid his job by trying to be the best.. But forgot the one important rule of upgrade : KEEP IT SIMPLE TO USE!

It is a human nature to be difficult to new changes. Look at the facebook, every time they brought change and updated their site everyone moaned, then eventually get used to with the changes and started saying ‘yeh much better than before’.
So, STOP moaning about new changes and keep asking for the personal section back. Gumtree is run by a company like eBay, who has the experience and skills to make the site good for the users and know how to. My advise to people those who don’t like it…just shut up and put up with it or simply leave!

The new Gumtree has been made to look more professional and inline with all the pretty new sites.
TBH though… if it aint brooke dont fix it!! Gumtree was the most simple easy to navigate site before, it has been unneccessarily overcomplicated.

When we read a comment like that we know that it is just an admission that you will choose your preferred replies and ignore those you dont like.
Even so its quite obvious from what you have allowed through that the new site is a disaster.
I also realise that computer experts are usually nerds and most have spelling problems as well. The proof of a good site is one that leads quickly and not one full of animated rubbish that slows things down. I have a rule, if it does not load in less than 9 seconds then they dont want me to see it !
You should consider adopting that rule!

When you upgrade Gumtree to new version – you will LOOSE lots of customers / searchers. People will try to find other web sites than Gumtree. If you do decide to go ahead with new style – at least give people a chance to go to OLD version – if that is what they want. PEOPLE – is GUMTREE’s PRIORITY. Their mind is what’s Important!

Bring back Old Gumtree!! It was great and a lotta fun. New Gumtree is boring and horrible to look at. Reinstate Friends and Dating too, people poured in to look at that which obviously benefited the whole site. You were crazy to cancel it.
Dear Gumtree team, what’s going on? How can you be advertising your new site even in the Metro and asking people to go to this site. It is such poor quality in comparison to the old one. It is sooooooo slow and all the images look like a 13 year old has created the website. I am an emplouer and used to find a lot of staff using Gumtree and would trawl the site on a daily basis nearly as a hobbie. It is just too painful and i have nearly give up now. Everyday i am hoping that it’s just a technical hitch but i cannot understand how youa re not improving this following your massive marketing strategy!!?? Please please sort it out soon!

This is a classic case of “if it isn’t broken don’t fix it”. The new Gumtree is not an upgrade, it is a downgrade. The old site was easy to use and very straight forward. I use Gumtree alot but I can barely find my way through this new layout. PLEASE, I REPEAT PLEASE KINDLY BRING GUMTREE BACK TO ITS OLD SELF.

Although not a professional programmer, I have designed my own HTML and CSS pages for the last 13 years. The old Gumtree had plenty of faults, but the new one has just multiplied them. However talented your programmers may be technically, it is clear that they do not understand that the prime purpose of a webpage is to convey information from screen to user’s mind in the shortest possible time. I used to run my own businesses, and I know that many people do not respond well to complexity. The problem with programmers is that they need to demonstrate how clever they are technically in order to gain points on their CV. Gumtree users like me have no interest in programmers’ CVs – what we want is simplicity, clarity, and speed. On that basis, Gumtree is heading in the opposite direction. You claim to be so proud of your response ( 8000 ), but you failed to test new ideas, merely putting them in place as a fait accompli. I have noticed a number of very irritating things about Gumtree that have reduced my use of the site, and simple observation of user visits to certain adverts suggests that something is not right. Pay me enough, and I will show you how to transform Gumtree.
And the opt-out/take-me-to-the-classic-site is javascript based – so I can’t go because… I’ve disabled javascript for security reasons. You are incredible, seriously. Did you not even read a book on website design?

Every bloody time, the marketers talk the techies into doing it up but doing it wrong.
1. A website should be usable. This doesnot feel like it’s been user tested.
2. The damn thing WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY WITHOUT JAVASCRIPT! Why didn’t you test the damn thing without javascript? Because javascript is cool! Yet at teh same time Unsafe! Hackable! A Security Risk! Unnecessary 97% of the time! Somehting anyone with an ounce of security nous will disable because of any number of insecurities (well known, well documented) it allows.
Damnit every bloody time someone does up a site they have to get clever.
Heck, I can’t even see a picture of the thing because an ‘email this ad to a friend’ sits over the top of it – anyone with a fraction of sense would never, ever email with this facility because it’s called SPAMMING!
Some damn checkbox widget is sitting over theh search box. The margins are too large (not everyone uses a high res 20″ monitor like your developers develop on, okay?).
Standard web pages should degrade gracefully…

since you new website, views to ads have been declined dramatically. For a normal ad in computing you dont even get 6 views a day. ad for my featured ad i just get about 10-15views a day????????? u new wesite is sh*t
The colours on the new site are horrible as their straining to read. The classic colours were softer, easier on the eye and to read. The classic layout was simpler, easier and quicker to navigate, a joy to use and has the requirements to what’s needed. The new layout is too busy and complicated, too much going on. Very displeasing and makes it an effort to use. It puts you off the site and doesn’t attract you to use. It greatly damages Gumtree. Everything’s there with the classic site, it flows really well and it works well. The classic site has it’s own individual look/layout. I have been a long term user of Gumtree for years and without hesitation prefer using the classic gumtree, please keep it. The good points are all there.
Now, it’s pretty bad one.
TO many old ads, months old, should have advanced search options also, say looking for a certain car or item by year,petrol or diesel, automatic or maneul etc and prices?wanted or for sale etc,more options needed,also option to search recent updated or placed ads,rather than goin through months of old ads allready sold items, ads should be no older than a month, and the ad placers should be prompted to either bump ads if older than a week or delete if sold, if not they should be removed if a month old,ans let the ad placer user know it will be deleted otherwise if a month old etc, or 2 weeks even ?other than that is a great site, and yes the dating section used to be good, except most of it was fake scammer spammers etc, i guess thats why u stopped doin it, but if there was a way to have dating back, maybe best to keep it seperate from the gumtree original site, maybe have another dating site, just for dating, so it doesnt ruin gumtree site itself,thats best,rory from dublin ireland.thanks for ur site ,its most appreciated honestly,

My adverts are getting little response comparing to the past, the hits are also very low. Moreover the search engines (eg:google) are not detecting my adverts in Gumtree any more. Please do something ungentky !

I’m sorry to say that I preferred the old version. This isn’t as user-friendly, takes longer to load and doesn’t work with all types of phones for mobile browsing.
It looks very snazzy and professional, but I’m not sure that’s what Gumtree users are after.
gumtree is a great support for urgent needs, vans, cleaner, elettricians, room to rent and so on…through gumtree i found my current flat where i have now been for 3 years….

I think this new site is cleaner and feature rich. I do understand why so many people are saying it’s not user-friendly or it’s crap etc.. that’s normal to happen when people are moving to a new design, they said more when facebook changed. People will gradually get used to the new design and appreciate it’s enhancement over the old one. I was able to quickly spot the technical changes and improvements because I myself I’m a web designer.

I work with unemployed people with low IT skills and I have been using the new site for just about a minute and im thoroughly p***ed off with it already far too slow, y fix it if its not broken, I dont know how my learners are going to cope they will get very frustrate. I say KEEP THE OLD ONE AND MAYBE TWEEK IT A BIT.

The new website is terrible, and not user friendly at all. In fact I’m pretty shocked by how terrible it is.
I have used gumtree a lot for selling and buying last year i did contact gumtree about this as i would like to be able to log in with my email address so that when i sell items i do not have to keep putting in my details everytime,and i agree with choc drop i would like to have a copy of what messages i have sent and received.
I think it is a real shame Gummie got rid of the ‘Friends’ section! I met some nice folks off there and was hoping to meet more until I saw it had been resigned to the scrap heap! Shame on you Gumtree!
TO many old ads, months old, should have advanced search options also, say looking for a certain car or item by year,petrol or diesel, automatic or maneul etc and prices?wanted or for sale etc,more options needed,also option to search recent updated or placed ads,rather than goin through months of old ads allready sold items, ads should be no older than a month, and the ad placers should be prompted to either bump ads if older than a week or delete if sold, if not they should be removed if a month old,ans let the ad placer user know it will be deleted otherwise if a month old etc, or 2 weeks even ?other than that is a great site, and yes the dating section used to be good, except most of it was fake scammer spammers etc, i guess thats why u stopped doin it, but if there was a way to have dating back, maybe best to keep it seperate from the gumtree original site, maybe have another dating site, just for dating, so it doesnt ruin gumtree site itself,thats best,rory from dublin ireland.thanks for ur site ,its most appreciated honestly,

I’m still getting the old site 9 times out of ten and really, really appreciate being able to search nationwide on the new site in one hit. Please hurry up with the new site!
It seems that in the new upgrade, that when you post an ad, it no longer sends you direct confirmation to your email address which links to the ad location. This is a shame as I tended to rely on reminders to edit/update any ads I’d posted. Plus this used to help you remember how long the ad had been running, so you could cancel if you needed to.
I can’t view the new site with my blackberry – would you make this available to us?
I like the fact that Gumtree covers the whole of UK. But now when I’m searching jobs I have to sift through hundreds of ‘jobs wanted’. Jobs wanted and Jobs offered should be completely separate!
i just love gumtree i spend most of my time daily on this site and just love ur new look of gumtree its alot more easier specially the pictures you can enlarge them now and i will suggest you allow more then 3 pictures at least 5 0r 7 for one add

It’s a good relaunch but I feel it will take time for people to get accustomed to the new look. Great go at it anyway!
gumtree is a great service, mostly for buying. the crown is still with likes of craigslist, however.
the biggest turn off for me posting more items is the fact, that postings have to be managed one by one. the lack of user accounts, where postings can be managed collectively (and reposted after they have expired) is a big inconvenience. i am getting tired having to give my full info for every single posting (and repeatedly upload the same pics).

you could add a feature to show more results in each page. Eg a selection of 30-50-100-200-500 results per page, just like ebay.

gumtree is an excellent community run very well please please dont go down the same route as freecycle as it is rubbish and you only get spam and you need to stop people posting links on there advertising free 42 inch plasmas etc

I deal in Antiques as a hobby I have a very small business. Unfortunately antiques and collectables are very difficult to find as you have to go through miscellaneous which loses me a lot of prospective clients. I am deeply dissatisfied with the new layout because of this. I like gumtree but I’m considering leaving because of this. In miscellaneous I could be trying to sell a chest of drawers and the next add will be a fish tank its totally unacceptable in my opinion. Another issue I wish to complain about is if I place an antique chest of drawers in house clearance or home and garden, due to the volume of people interested in furniture it will be moved by the gumtree team to miscellaneous without my permission. Obviously I know my target market and I don’t appreciate the team making decisions that may lose me clients.

I use gumtree a lot,one thing that frustrates me is that I will reply to an ad(which doesn’t list the persons contact details and only has a link to reply)but then afterwards I could really do with a copy sent to my e-mail of my reply,so that I can remember what I have said,what attachments I have sent and to be able to read through the reply and see what I previously sent and see what the reply is addressing
