Make your ad stand out for Big BrotherFriday 5 December 2014, by The Media Team
Starting In January, Gumtree are sponsoring Celebrity Big Brother on Channel 5. And, to kick-start the collaboration, anyone who posts an ad in our For Sale category between 3rd – 10th December has the option to sell their item to the CBB team. Whatever the item, if Big Brother likes it, it could end up in the House!
Every item will be looked at but obviously not everyone can be successful. And with nearly 10,000 items already in the list you’ll need to make sure your ad stands out from the crowd. With that in mind, we’ve put together a handy checklist for you to follow to help get your ad noticed.
An eye-catching title is essential if you want to attract the attention of the CBB team. Your title is the first thing they will see as they scan through the long list of items on offer. So take your time to work out the best title you can think of.
Don’t be afraid to be specific with the title, but keep it as short and sweet as you can. If you can add a little humour, all the better.
It goes without saying that your ad should have at least one photo and there’s a strong possibility items without an accompanying picture will be ignored. However, one photo is rarely enough.
Take lots, so you have plenty to choose from when it comes to uploading them for your ad. Capture the front and back of your item. Take close ups to highlight interesting detail and choose a few different angles.
And be aware of where you are taking the photo and make sure your item is well lit. Pay attention to the background, and a plain white wall is usually best.
Some ads on Gumtree simply list the features of the item they are selling. Which is fine if you’re selling a textbook. But, if you want the CBB team to really sit up and take notice of your item you need to outline the benefits. This is known as selling the sizzle, not the sausage!
If your item have an interesting backstory or some personal significance, make sure it’s in the description.
If you really want to increase the chances of getting your item into the Big Brother House you should push any unique angle you can think of. Items will often stand a better chance if they are in mint or good condition but you should try and think beyond those terms and come up with something to whet the producers’ appetite.
There are no sure-fire rules to getting your item selected for Celebrity Big Brother but originality is the key to getting your ad noticed. Just remember, however you choose to advertise your item, make sure you tick the ‘Sell to Big Brother’ box, to be in with a chance.
