Keep Safe at XmasFriday 23 November 2012, by The media team
We want to wish you all a very merry Christmas, and a happy and prosperous new year.
We’ll be on hand throughout Christmas to answer any questions or queries you may have, through our ‘Contact us’ section. And our top tips remain the same all year round
1) If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Be careful about ads offering products much cheaper than their retail value – for instance anyone offering a brand new iPhone 5 for £100 would be pretty suspicious!
2) Always meet in person, and never buy something without seeing it first. Face-to-face is always the safest way to trade, so choose a public place, and consider bringing a friend with you if you’re discussing something valuable. Don’t carry too much cash on you, as you can always make arrangements to pay once you are happy.
3) Never send money online. If you’re ever asked to use money transfer services like Western Union, Ukash or MoneyGram – be very careful. In our experience these are often favoured by fraudsters, so don’t put yourself at risk unnecessarily.
