5 top tips for a successful spring cleanTuesday 23 May 2017, by The Media Team
Now that the spring sun is showing its face more frequently, many of us are overcome with a certain thirst for action. It’s no wonder we’re experiencing this mild form of cabin fever. Over the past year (even longer for some us) we’ve accumulated so much unnecessary stuff that the clutter is clouding our heads. A thorough spring clean is in order and the bank holiday weekend is the perfect occasion to get it done!
Here are our top 5 tips on how to make this year’s spring clean a success:
- Declutter your home
Decluttering your home is one of the most important steps to take when starting your spring clean. Start by putting things back to where they belong to manage the initial chaos. If you lack storage options, look into some affordable storage boxes or shelves from Gumtree. For your bedroom it may be worth investing in a nice jewellery box and a chest of drawers to keep your clothes neatly stored.
- Don’t need it? Sell it!
While going through your drawers you may have come across certain items you completely forgot you had, or have even forgotten why you have them in the first place… like that deluxe picnic set you got a couple of summers ago. Selling your non-essential things on Gumtree will not only make room to breathe but with the extra pocket money you could even afford to extend your summer holidays by a few days…
- Revisit your resolutions
Now that your home is clutter free and you’ve got some extra cash to spend, it’s time to look at what other aspects of your daily life need some TLC. Did you promise yourself you’d finally keep up your new year’s resolutions for 2017 but actually spend most of the weekends on the couch? Well it’s time to change that. Find yourself a personal trainer or a sports group to give you the motivation to meet your fitness goals, or perhaps take that French course you just never quite have gotten around to taking.
4. Have some ‘me’ time
In line with your ‘new year, new me’ mantra, take the time to focus on yourself and nourish your mind, body and soul accordingly. Why not look into taking yoga classes or learning an instrument to balance out the stress at work? We also heard that colouring books have a relaxing effect on the brain…
5. Now you’ve spring cleaned… throw a BBQ!
Your home is spotless, your mind doesn’t have to worry about a thing and you’re ready to have some fun? Awesome! Celebrate by inviting your friends for a pre -summer BBQ party! Get your BBQ equipment on Gumtree, invest in a nice garden furniture set and raise your glasses to a great summer to come!
